Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely sliced
  • 8 oz Mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties about ¾ inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and browned.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring constantly for 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste.

Step 6

Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring, ensuring no lumps form. Add the ketchup and Dijon mustard, and stir to combine.

Step 7

Bring the gravy to a simmer, then return the beef patties to the skillet. Spoon some of the gravy over the patties.

Step 8

Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Let the patties simmer in the gravy for 15 minutes, flipping them once halfway through to ensure even cooking.

Step 9

Serve the Salisbury steaks with the onion-mushroom gravy spooned over the top. Pair with mashed potatoes and a side of vegetables for a complete meal.
