Ingredients

  • 900 grams Potatoes
  • 350 grams Cabbage
  • 1 large Onion
  • 60 grams Unsalted butter
  • 100 milliliters Milk
  • 150 grams Cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Peel and dice the potatoes into large chunks. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

Step 2

While the potatoes are cooking, finely chop the cabbage and onion.

Step 3

Heat 20 grams of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the cabbage and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Set aside.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 5

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them thoroughly and mash them until smooth. Add the remaining 40 grams of butter and the milk, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 6

Fold the cooked cabbage and onions into the mashed potatoes, mixing well to evenly combine.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the top.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling, with a golden crust.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm as a side dish or a main course.
