Ingredients

  • 16 slices Rye cocktail bread
  • 0.5 pounds Ground pork sausage
  • 0.5 pounds Ground beef
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese, diced
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cups Sweet onion, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Olive oil
  • 4 sprigs Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, warm 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Add the ground pork sausage, ground beef, minced garlic, and diced sweet onion. Cook until the meats are browned and onions are translucent, stirring occasionally (about 6–8 minutes). Drain any excess grease.

Step 3

Lower the heat to medium-low and stir in the diced Velveeta cheese, softened cream cheese, chopped rosemary, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook and stir until the cheeses are fully melted and the mixture is creamy and smooth (about 2–3 minutes). Remove from heat.

Step 4

Arrange the rye cocktail bread slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Using a spoon, evenly distribute the sausage and cheese mixture onto each slice, spreading it to cover most of the bread.

Step 5

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are lightly crispy and the topping is golden and bubbling.

Step 6

Remove from the oven and let the Hanky Pankys cool slightly for about 2 minutes. Garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs if desired and serve warm.

Step 7

Leftovers can be cooled completely and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat at 375°F (190°C) for 5–7 minutes before serving.
