Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 medium, diced onion
  • 1 bag (30 oz) frozen hash brown potatoes
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups, crushed corn flakes cereal

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until translucent, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed onions and cooked ground beef with the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 5

Fold in the frozen hash brown potatoes and 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until the mixture is well-combined.

Step 6

Lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish, then spread the beef and potato mixture evenly into the dish.

Step 7

In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Toss the crushed corn flakes with the melted butter until evenly coated.

Step 8

Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole, followed by the buttered corn flakes.

Step 9

Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.

Step 10

Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
