Ingredients

  • 12 pieces Fresh habanero peppers
  • 6 pieces Fresh jalapeño peppers
  • 4 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 1 medium White onion
  • 5 pieces Tomatillos
  • 1 cup Fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cups Water

Directions

Step 1

1. Prepare the vegetables by removing the stems from the habaneros and jalapeños, peeling the garlic, peeling and quartering the onion, and husking the tomatillos.

Step 2

2. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and tomatillos. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.

Step 3

3. Add the habaneros, jalapeños, water, and sea salt to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, allowing the peppers to soften fully.

Step 4

4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before transferring it to a blender.

Step 5

5. In the blender, add the cooked mixture along with fresh cilantro, apple cider vinegar, lime juice, ground cumin, and smoked paprika.

Step 6

6. Blend the ingredients on high speed until the sauce reaches a smooth consistency. Add additional water, one tablespoon at a time, if needed to adjust the thickness of the sauce.

Step 7

7. Taste and adjust seasoning with extra salt or lime juice if desired.

Step 8

8. Pour the sauce into sterilized glass jars or bottles. Allow to cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.

Step 9

9. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Shake well before each use and enjoy with tacos, burritos, eggs, or any dish that needs a spicy kick!
