Ingredients

  • 2 cups Basmati rice
  • 3 cups Water
  • 3 large Onions
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Ground turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak the rice in water for 20 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Peel and thinly slice the onions into half-moons.

Step 3

Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until they are deep golden brown and caramelized. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.

Once the onions are caramelized, remove half of them from the skillet and set them aside for later garnish.
