Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.25 cups Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried parsley (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is activated.

Step 2

Add the olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix well until smooth.

Step 3

Gradually add the remaining 1.5 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add an extra tablespoon of flour at a time until it becomes workable.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm, draft-free spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 even pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-8 inch breadstick and place them on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.

Step 8

Cover the breadsticks with a towel and let them rise again for 20-30 minutes until puffy.

Step 9

Bake the breadsticks for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Step 10

While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan or microwave-safe dish. Stir in the garlic powder.

Step 11

As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter.

Step 12

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the hot breadsticks and garnish with dried parsley if desired.

Step 13

Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce, and enjoy!
