Ingredients

  • 1.75 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 1 cup Creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups Mini Reese's cups
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Line the bottom of each pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix the ingredients on medium speed until combined.

Step 4

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin; this is normal.

Step 5

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 6

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 7

To make the peanut butter filling, beat together the peanut butter, softened butter, and powdered sugar in a medium mixing bowl until smooth and fluffy.

Step 8

Once the cakes are cool, spread the peanut butter filling on top of one of the cake layers. Place the second layer of cake on top.

Step 9

For the chocolate ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until it just begins to simmer. Remove it from heat and pour it over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit for 2 minutes, then whisk until smooth.

Step 10

Pour the ganache over the top of the cake, letting it drip down the sides.

Step 11

Garnish the cake with mini Reese's cups, arranging them on top and around the base of the cake.

Step 12

Refrigerate the cake for 15–20 minutes to let the ganache set before slicing and serving.
