  • 500 grams red onions
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 200 ml red wine vinegar

  • 100 ml dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions

Step 1

Peel the red onions and finely slice them into thin strips.

Step 2

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the tablespoon of butter over medium heat.

Add the sliced red onions to the pan and sauté them gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and translucent but not browned.

Stir in the granulated sugar, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, and dry red wine. Mix well to ensure the sugar dissolves fully in the liquid.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Add the lemon juice and salt, and stir to combine.
