Ingredients

  • 1 Puff pastry sheet
  • 2 large Red onions
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar
  • 150 grams Fresh goat cheese
  • 10 garnish Fresh basil leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

Peel and thinly slice the red onions.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the red onions and season with salt and black pepper.

Step 4

Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes or until softened and beginning to caramelize.

Step 5

Add balsamic vinegar to the onions and cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 6

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle or desired shape. Transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Using a sharp knife, score a border approximately 1 inch from the edges of the puff pastry, being careful not to cut all the way through.

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the border of the puff pastry with the egg wash.

Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the center of the puff pastry, avoiding the scored edges.

Crumble the goat cheese over the top of the onions.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.

Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
