Ingredients

  • 1 pound lump crab meat
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, carefully pick through the lump crab meat to remove any remaining shell pieces. Be gentle to keep the crab meat intact.

Step 2

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, and chopped parsley until smooth.

Step 3

Beat the egg and add it to the mixture, stirring until well combined.

Step 4

Gently fold the wet mixture into the crab meat. Do this carefully to avoid breaking up the crab chunks.

Step 5

Gradually sprinkle in the breadcrumbs. Mix just until the mixture holds together—do not overmix.

Step 6

Using your hands, form the mixture into 8 equal-sized patties. They should be about 1/2-inch thick.

Step 7

Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape during cooking.

Step 8

Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 9

Once the skillet is hot, carefully add the crab cakes. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crisp.

Step 10

Remove the crab cakes from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 11

Serve immediately with your favorite sauce (such as tartar sauce or a lemon aioli) and a wedge of lemon.
