Ingredients

  • 2 pieces (6-8 oz each) Fresh tuna steak
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly grated ginger
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 4 pieces Lime wedges (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the tuna steaks dry with a paper towel and set them aside.

Step 2

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create a marinade.

Step 3

Pour the marinade over the tuna steaks, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let them marinate for 5-10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Step 4

In another small bowl, combine the sesame seeds, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Step 5

Remove the tuna steaks from the marinade (reserve the marinade for later use if desired) and press them into the sesame seed mixture on all sides to create an even crust.

Step 6

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Swirl to coat the pan evenly.

Step 7

Once the oil is hot and shimmering, carefully place the tuna steaks in the skillet. Sear for 1-2 minutes on each side, depending on your desired level of doneness. The outside should be golden brown with a rare, cool center.

Step 8

Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing.

Step 9

Slice the tuna into thin slices and serve immediately. Optionally, garnish with lime wedges and drizzle with any reserved marinade.
