Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 large Yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 small French bread rolls
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the sliced yellow onions to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, for 10-12 minutes, until they are golden brown and caramelized. Remove the onions from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the minced garlic. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 5

Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 6

Preheat your oven's broiler. Slice the French bread rolls in half lengthwise and spread softened butter across the cut sides of each roll.

Step 7

Place the buttered rolls on a baking sheet, cut sides up, and toast them under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until golden and crisp. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.

Step 8

Assemble the sandwiches: Spoon the cooked beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted roll. Layer the caramelized onions on top of the beef, followed by a sprinkling of shredded cheese if desired.

Step 9

Place the assembled sandwiches back under the broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese (if using).

Step 10

Top each sandwich with the upper half of the roll and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
