Ingredients

  • 8 pieces chicken drumsticks
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 pieces garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 2 pieces spring onions, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Begin by patting the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels, which will help the skin crisp up during cooking.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and chili flakes (if using). Set aside.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the chicken drumsticks to the pan and cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning frequently, until they are browned on all sides. Remove the drumsticks from the pan and set aside.

Step 5

Lower the heat to medium-low and carefully pour the prepared sauce into the same pan. Stir it gently, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Step 6

Return the browned drumsticks to the pan, ensuring they are well coated in the sauce. Cover with a lid and let them cook for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking and glazing.

Step 7

Remove the lid during the final 5 minutes of cooking to allow the sauce to thicken further and become sticky. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.

Step 8

Once the drumsticks are fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F or 74°C) and the sauce is glossy and sticky, transfer them to a serving platter.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped spring onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.
