Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey or beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces pasta (elbow macaroni or penne)
  • 14.5 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook the pasta according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the cooking oil. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the ground turkey or beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juices), tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper into the skillet. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes.

Step 7

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and stir until the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce.

Step 8

Transfer the skillet mixture to a lightly greased 9x13-inch casserole dish. Spread it out in an even layer.

Step 9

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the top of the casserole.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 11

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy!
