Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground turkey (lean)
  • 1 cup white rice
  • 1 cup sweet potato (cooked and mashed)
  • 0.5 cup carrots (finely grated or chopped)
  • 0.5 cup green beans (cooked and chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon fish oil (optional, for Omega-3 fatty acids)
  • 0.5 teaspoon calcium carbonate powder (vet-recommended dose)
  • 2 cups water

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium heat.

Step 2

Cook the ground turkey in the skillet until thoroughly browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Step 3

While the turkey is cooking, rinse the white rice under cold water.

Step 4

In a medium-sized pot, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender.

Step 5

In a separate pot, boil the sweet potato until soft. Remove the skin and mash the flesh into a smooth consistency.

Step 6

Steam or lightly boil the carrots and green beans until tender. Finely chop or grate if necessary.

Step 7

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked turkey, rice, mashed sweet potato, carrots, green beans, and fish oil (if using). Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 8

Add the calcium carbonate powder to the mixture and stir thoroughly to ensure even distribution. (Always follow your veterinarian's recommendation regarding the amount.)

Step 9

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before serving your dog. Portion the food into 5 servings and refrigerate or freeze any unused portions for later use.

Step 10

Serve an appropriate portion for your dog's size and activity level, and monitor their response to ensure the new food is well-tolerated.
