Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Butter (cold, cubed)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 0.5 cups Milk
  • 2 cups Pumpkin (grated, fresh or canned)
  • 0.5 cups Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 2

Cut in the cold cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 egg and milk. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Step 5

For the filling, mix grated pumpkin, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a medium bowl until evenly combined.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 7

Divide the chilled dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 6 inches in diameter.

Step 8

Place about 2 tablespoons of the pumpkin mixture in the center of each circle.

Step 9

Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together and crimp them with a fork to seal.

Step 10

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the turnovers with the egg wash for a glossy finish.

Step 11

Using a sharp knife, cut a small slit in the top of each turnover to allow steam to escape.

Step 12

Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 13

Allow the turnovers to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
