Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 1 tbsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Chicken or beef broth
  • 2 cups Barbecue sauce
  • 8 units Hamburger buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 cups Coleslaw (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix together kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar to create a dry rub.

Step 2

Rub the pork shoulder thoroughly with the spice mixture, ensuring even coverage.

Step 3

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker and pour the chicken or beef broth around it.

Step 4

Cover with the lid and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shred-able.

Step 5

Remove the cooked pork from the slow cooker and place on a large cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork into small pieces, discarding any excess fat.

Step 6

Drain any excess liquid from the slow cooker, leaving about 1/2 cup for moisture. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the barbecue sauce until evenly coated. Keep warm on the ‘warm’ setting while preparing the rest.

Step 7

Butter the inside of each hamburger bun and toast them on a skillet or grill over medium heat until golden brown.

Step 8

Assemble your sandwiches by piling the pulled pork onto the bottom half of the toasted bun. Top with coleslaw if desired, then place the top bun over the filling.

Step 9

Serve immediately with extra barbecue sauce on the side and enjoy!
