Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 4 leaves Lettuce
  • 1 large, sliced Tomato
  • 1 small, sliced into rings Red onion
  • 8 slices Pickles
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Yellow mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands to avoid overworking the meat.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 4 inches in diameter. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb—this helps them cook evenly.

Step 3

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the burger patties.

Step 4

Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on the first side, or until the bottom is nicely browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 3 minutes.

Step 5

Place a slice of Provolone cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil to help the cheese melt.

Step 6

Meanwhile, toast the burger buns in a dry skillet or under a broiler until they are golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a cooked burger patty with melted Provolone. Add a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, a few rings of red onion, and 2 pickle slices. Spread 1 tablespoon of ketchup and 1/2 teaspoon of mustard on the top half of each bun.

Step 8

Place the top half of the bun on each burger. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
