Ingredients

  • 500 grams Prawns (shrimp), peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons Tamarind paste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Fish sauce
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil
  • 1 Red chili, sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • 2 Lime wedges (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix tamarind paste, water, brown sugar, soy sauce, and fish sauce until combined. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the prawns to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the prawns from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Pour the tamarind sauce mixture into the skillet and bring it to a simmer. Allow the sauce to cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Step 6

Return the cooked prawns to the skillet and toss them in the sauce until they are evenly coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 7

If using, add sliced red chili for a touch of heat.

Step 8

Garnish the dish with freshly chopped cilantro and serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
