In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
Add the yeast mixture, yogurt, and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients.
Mix everything together until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until it doubles in size.
While the dough is resting, prepare the potato filling. In a medium bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, green chilies, cilantro, cumin seeds, red chili powder, and salt.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air and divide it into 8 equal portions.
Roll each portion of dough into a small ball. Flatten one ball and place about 1-2 tablespoons of the potato filling in the center.
Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and seal it. Gently roll it out with a rolling pin into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Place the rolled naan on the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until you see bubbles forming on the surface, then flip.
Cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until both sides are golden brown.
Remove from heat and brush with butter. Repeat the process for the remaining dough and filling.
Serve hot with your favorite curry or enjoy as a standalone dish.
