Ingredients

  • 4 medium Russet potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoons Garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks (roughly 1-2 inches).

Step 2

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

Step 3

Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and let the potatoes simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.

Step 4

Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot. Let them sit for 1–2 minutes to allow excess moisture to evaporate.

Step 5

Add the butter, milk, salt, and ground black pepper to the pot with the potatoes.

Step 6

Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency. For extra creaminess, you can use a hand mixer or potato ricer.

Step 7

Taste the potato mush and adjust the seasonings if needed. Stir in the garlic powder if you want an extra layer of flavor.

Step 8

Transfer the potato mush to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy on its own for a comforting meal!
