Ingredients

  • 6 large Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into even slices, about 1/4-inch thick. Place the slices in a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice to the apples. Toss until the apples are evenly coated, then transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, remaining 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.

Step 5

Cut the butter into small cubes and add them to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the mixture until it forms a crumbly texture.

Step 6

Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish, making sure all the apples are covered.

Step 7

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling underneath.

Step 8

Remove the apple crisp from the oven and let it cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
