Ingredients

  • 4 pieces pork steaks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 cup chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Season the pork steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Step 3

Sear the pork steaks in the hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 4

In the same pan, add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring often to prevent burning.

Step 6

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red bell pepper slices, chicken or vegetable stock, dried oregano, dried basil, and crushed red pepper flakes.

Step 7

Return the seared pork steaks to the pan, submerging them in the sauce.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the dish simmer for 30-35 minutes, occasionally turning the pork steaks.

Step 9

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt or black pepper, if needed.

Step 10

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with pasta, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread.
