Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Pork chops (bone-in or boneless)
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 4 medium Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Season the pork chops on both sides with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the pork chops.

Step 3

Cook the pork chops for 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Remove the pork chops from the skillet and let them rest on a plate under foil.

Step 4

While the pork chops are cooking, peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped apples, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 0.5 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, 0.25 cups of water, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.

Step 6

Bring the apple mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft.

Step 7

Using a potato masher or fork, mash the apples to your desired consistency. For a smoother texture, you can use an immersion blender.

Step 8

Taste the applesauce and adjust sweetness or acidity, if needed, by adding more brown sugar or lemon juice.

Step 9

Return the skillet to medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter to make a quick pan sauce. Scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the skillet for flavor.

Step 10

Serve the pork chops warm with a generous spoonful of homemade applesauce on the side. Enjoy!
