Ingredients

  • 4 pieces bone-in pork chops
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, sliced)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Directions

Step 1

Season both sides of the pork chops with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove the chops from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt.

Step 4

Slice the yellow onion thinly and add it to the skillet. Cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft and golden.

Step 5

Core and slice the apples. Add them to the skillet with the onions, and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until the apples start to soften.

Step 6

Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the thyme leaves, ground cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar.

Step 7

Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them among the onions and apples. Spoon some of the sauce over the pork chops.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the pork chops are cooked through and register an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

Step 9

Remove the skillet from the heat and let the dish rest for 5 minutes. Serve the pork chops topped with the apples, onions, and sauce.
