Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounces canned tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, uncooked rice, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.

Step 2

Shape the mixture into 8 evenly-sized patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet or sauté pan, pour in the tomato sauce, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 4

Carefully place the patties into the simmering sauce. Spoon some sauce over the top of each patty to coat them well.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and let the patties simmer for about 35-40 minutes. Turn the patties once halfway through cooking and stir the sauce to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Once the rice in the patties is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove the skillet from the heat.

Step 7

Serve the Porcupine Burgers hot, spooning additional sauce over the top. Pair with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
