Ingredients

  • 4 pieces pork shoulder steaks
  • 6 slices pineapple slices (fresh or canned)
  • 0.33 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced thinly
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, prepare the Polynesian marinade by whisking together soy sauce, honey, lime juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, and brown sugar until the honey and sugar are fully dissolved.

Step 2

Set aside 3 tablespoons of the marinade in a separate small bowl to use for basting later.

Step 3

Season the pork shoulder steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides, then place them in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Step 4

If using fresh pineapple, peel and slice it into 1/2-inch thick rings. Set aside.

Step 5

Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat. Brush the grates or pan with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Remove the pork steaks from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off. Discard the used marinade.

Step 7

Grill the pork steaks for 4-5 minutes per side, brushing occasionally with the reserved marinade, until they are caramelized and fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 145°F/63°C).

Step 8

While the pork cooks, grill the pineapple slices alongside the meat for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they develop golden grill marks.

Step 9

Transfer the pork steaks and pineapple to a serving platter and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Garnish the pork steaks with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve with the grilled pineapple on the side for a burst of sweetness.
