Ingredients

  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

While the noodles cook, prepare the cabbage and onions. Cut the cabbage into quarters, remove the core, and chop it into thin strips. Slice the onion into thin slices.

Step 3

In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat 2 tablespoons of butter and the olive oil over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and begin to caramelize.

Step 5

Add the cabbage to the skillet and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring often, until the cabbage is tender and slightly golden.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and add the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Stir until the butter melts and coats the cabbage and onions.

Step 7

Toss the drained egg noodles into the skillet with the cabbage mixture. Stir well to combine, ensuring the noodles are coated in the buttery mixture. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or garlic powder, if desired.

Step 8

Remove from the heat and garnish with fresh parsley, if using. Serve immediately as a main course or side dish.
