Ingredients

  • 500 grams plums
  • 150 grams pitted dates
  • 1 medium sized red onion
  • 100 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 100 grams brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 2 pieces garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 100 ml water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the plums thoroughly, remove the pits, and chop them into small pieces. Set aside.

Step 2

Finely chop the red onion, garlic cloves, and pitted dates. Grate the fresh ginger.

Step 3

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine chopped plums, pitted dates, and red onion.

Step 4

Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, and water to the saucepan.

Step 5

Stir in the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground cumin, and salt.

Step 6

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.

Step 7

Once boiling, reduce the heat to a low simmer and let the chutney cook for 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Allow the mixture to thicken and the flavors to meld.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If the chutney is too thick, add a splash of water to adjust the consistency.

Step 9

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the chutney cool slightly.

Step 10

Transfer the chutney to sterilized jars if storing, or serve immediately as a condiment.
