Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 15 ounces Crushed tomatoes (canned)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.

Step 2

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves. Add the garlic to the saucepan and sauté for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned.

Step 3

Pour the crushed tomatoes into the pan and stir to combine with the garlic and oil.

Step 4

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to distribute the seasonings evenly.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning.

Step 6

Season the sauce with freshly ground black pepper to taste and adjust the salt or sugar if needed.

Step 7

Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool slightly before spreading it onto your pizza dough. Any leftover sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
