Ingredients

  • 500 grams Chicken breasts
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 3 none Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Pita bread
  • 200 grams Tzatziki sauce
  • 2 none Tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 none Red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 none Cucumber, sliced
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 100 grams Feta cheese, crumbled

Directions

Step 1

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized cubes and set them aside in a large bowl.

Step 2

In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to prepare the marinade.

Step 3

Pour the marinade over the chicken pieces and toss to coat evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to overnight.

Step 4

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

Step 5

Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers. Grill the chicken for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and slightly charred. Remove the chicken from the skewers and set aside.

Step 6

Warm the pita bread by placing it on the grill for about 30 seconds per side or until slightly charred and pliable.

Step 7

To assemble the stuffed pita, spread a generous layer of tzatziki sauce on each pita.

Step 8

Layer lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion, grilled chicken pieces, and crumbled feta cheese in the center of the pita.

Step 9

Fold the sides of the pita around the filling and optionally secure with parchment paper or foil for easier handling.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Pita Stuffed Souvlaki!
