Ingredients

  • 5 medium Potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 stalks Celery
  • 1 large Carrot
  • 300 grams White fish fillets (e.g., cod or haddock)
  • 150 grams Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 100 grams Crab meat
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Fish stock
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

Peel and chop the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a large pot of salted water and boil until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

While the potatoes are boiling, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, minced garlic, chopped celery, and chopped carrot. Sauté until vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Cut the white fish fillets into bite-sized pieces. Add the fish, shrimp, and crab meat to the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes until just opaque.

Step 4

Sprinkle the flour over the seafood and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Step 5

Slowly pour in the fish stock while stirring to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then add the heavy cream. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 4 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg. Remove from heat and transfer the filling to a greased 9-inch pie dish.

Step 7

When the potatoes are done, drain them and mash with butter, milk, and a pinch of salt until smooth and fluffy.

Step 8

Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the seafood filling, starting from the edges and working toward the center to seal the filling in.

Step 9

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the potatoes.

Step 10

Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Step 11

Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with additional parsley if desired and enjoy your Pirate's Pie!
