Ingredients

  • 4 pieces French bread or sandwich rolls
  • 1 pound Deli-sliced roast beef
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Slice the French bread or rolls lengthwise but do not separate them completely. Place them on a baking sheet.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, combine the beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to simmer.

Step 4

Add the deli-sliced roast beef to the saucepan and let it warm in the broth for 5–7 minutes, keeping the heat low to prevent overcooking.

Step 5

Melt the butter and brush it onto the inside of the bread or rolls.

Step 6

Using tongs, layer the warm roast beef onto the bottom half of each roll or bread. Add 2 slices of provolone cheese on top of the roast beef.

Step 7

Close the sandwiches and carefully press them slightly together. Place the sandwiches in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is browned and crispy.

Step 8

While the sandwiches bake, strain the remaining beef broth mixture to make a smooth au jus. Pour it into small bowls for dipping.

Step 9

Remove the sandwiches from the oven, slice them in half if desired, and serve immediately with the au jus on the side.
