Ingredients

  • 1 kg Pink guavas
  • 750 g Granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 250 ml Water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the pink guavas thoroughly under running water and pat them dry with a clean towel.

Step 2

Cut the guavas into quarters, removing any blemishes or damaged spots. Do not peel the guavas, as the skin adds extra flavor.

Step 3

Place the guava pieces and water into a large saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the guavas for about 15-20 minutes, or until they soften and their flesh easily breaks apart.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Using a blender or food processor, puree the softened guavas until smooth.

Step 5

Strain the guava puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl to remove seeds and pulp, leaving behind a thick and silky guava puree.

Step 6

Measure the strained guava puree to determine its volume. For every cup of guava puree, use an equivalent amount of sugar. Typically, 750 g of sugar is sufficient for 1 kg of guavas.

Step 7

Pour the guava puree back into the saucepan and add the measured sugar. Stir well to combine, then add the lemon juice. Lemon juice helps balance the sweetness and acts as a natural preservative.

Step 8

Cook the mixture over low to medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. This step will take about 40-45 minutes. Keep cooking until the jam thickens and reaches the desired consistency.

Step 9

To test if the jam is ready, spoon a small amount onto a chilled plate. If it thickens and wrinkles when pushed with your finger, the jam is done.

Step 10

Once the jam is ready, immediately pour it into sterilized jars while it's still hot. Seal the jars tightly and let them cool to room temperature. Store the jam in a cool, dark place or refrigerate for longer shelf life.

Step 11

Enjoy your Pink Guava Jam on toast, pancakes, or as a filling for pastries and desserts!
