Ingredients

  • 2 cups (diced) Fresh pineapple
  • 2 cups (pitted and diced) Fresh plums
  • 0.5 cup (finely chopped) Red onion
  • 1 tablespoon (grated) Fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the pineapple and plums by dicing them into small, uniform pieces. Remove any seeds or tough cores from the fruit.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, heat a small amount of water (about 2-3 tablespoons) over medium heat and add the chopped red onion. Cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Add the grated ginger and minced garlic to the pan, stirring for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the diced pineapple, plums, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, and all the spices (ground cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, salt, and optional red chili flakes).

Step 5

Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 35-40 minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon occasionally. Continue cooking until the fruit breaks down, and the chutney thickens to a jam-like consistency.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the chutney cool slightly.

Step 8

Transfer the chutney to sterilized jars if canning, or let it cool completely and place in airtight containers for refrigeration. The chutney can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Step 9

Serve the pineapple plum chutney as a condiment alongside your favorite dishes, or gift it as a homemade treat!
