Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 0.5 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 0.25 cup dry white wine
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed and drained
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter.

Step 2

Once the butter has melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.

Step 3

Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and the white wine, stirring to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 3-4 minutes to reduce slightly.

Step 4

Stir in the lemon juice and capers. Simmer for another 2 minutes to blend the flavors.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter until melted and the sauce becomes smooth and glossy.

Step 6

Season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 7

Sprinkle the chopped parsley into the sauce just before serving.

Step 8

Pour the warm piccata sauce over cooked white fish fillets (such as pan-seared or baked cod, halibut, or tilapia) and serve immediately.
