Ingredients

  • 6 large stems King oyster mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 2 stalks, finely chopped Green onions
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Slice the king oyster mushroom stems into half-inch thick discs to mimic the size and shape of abalone slices.

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and half a cup of water. Stir until the cornstarch is completely dissolved. Set the sauce mixture aside.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the mushroom slices to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly tender.

Step 5

Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and reduce the heat to low. Allow the mushrooms to simmer in the sauce for 5-7 minutes, spooning the sauce over the slices occasionally.

Step 6

In a separate small bowl, dissolve the remaining half cup of water with a pinch of salt and pepper. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add this mixture to loosen it to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Once the sauce has thickened and coated the mushrooms evenly, remove the skillet from the heat.

Step 8

Garnish the dish with chopped green onions and serve immediately, either on its own or with steamed rice.
