Ingredients

  • 1 pound ribeye steak
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 medium green bell pepper
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for 20-30 minutes. This will firm up the meat, making it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

While the steak is freezing, thinly slice the onion and green bell pepper into strips.

Step 3

After removing the steak from the freezer, use a sharp knife to slice the steak as thinly as possible against the grain. Set aside.

Step 4

In a large skillet or griddle, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Increase the heat to medium-high, then add the thinly sliced steak. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the steak is browned and cooked through, stirring frequently.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and return the sautéed onions and bell peppers to the skillet with the steak. Stir to combine.

Step 7

Divide the steak, onion, and bell pepper mixture into four equal portions in the skillet. Lay 2 slices of provolone cheese over each portion. Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil and let the cheese melt, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 8

Meanwhile, slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise and toast them lightly if desired. Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter across the toasted rolls.

Step 9

Using a spatula, transfer each portion of the cheesy steak and vegetable mixture onto the prepared hoagie rolls.

Step 10

Serve the Philly Cheesesteaks immediately while hot. Enjoy!
