Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 large garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

Wash and trim the ends of the green beans. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.

Step 2

Mince the garlic cloves finely and set aside.

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili garlic sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, cornstarch, and water. Whisk well to create the sauce mixture and set aside.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan.

Step 5

Add the green beans to the skillet and stir-fry for 4–5 minutes, until they are tender-crisp and slightly blistered. Remove the beans from the skillet and set aside.

Step 6

In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to medium and pour the prepared sauce mixture into the skillet. Stir continuously until the sauce slightly thickens, about 1–2 minutes.

Step 8

Return the green beans to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly in the sauce.

Step 9

Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes, allowing the beans to absorb the flavors of the sauce.

Step 10

Transfer the spicy green beans to a serving dish and serve immediately.
