Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese slices
  • 4 large Hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder

Directions

Step 1

Freeze the ribeye steak for 30 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly (if not already pre-sliced). Season the steak slices with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened and slightly caramelized, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak in batches if necessary, cooking until browned and cooked through. This takes about 3-5 minutes per batch. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Step 4

Return the sautéed onions and peppers to the skillet, mixing them with the cooked steak. Lower the heat to medium and arrange portions of the mixture into 4 even piles in the skillet.

Step 5

Place 1-2 slices of provolone cheese over each pile and cover with a lid. Let the cheese melt, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread butter evenly on the insides of the hoagie rolls and sprinkle with garlic powder. Toast in the oven for 5 minutes or until lightly browned.

Step 7

Carefully scoop the steak, onion, pepper, and cheese mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls.

Step 8

Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy Pete's Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches!
