Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (melted, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm the milk over low heat until it is lukewarm (around 100-110°F). Remove from heat and add 2 tablespoons of the sugar and the yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

Melt the butter in the microwave or on the stove. Let the melted butter cool slightly, then whisk it together with the egg in a small bowl.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in the yeast mixture and the egg-butter mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or a silicone spatula until a cohesive dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment and knead on medium speed for 6-8 minutes.

Step 6

Lightly grease a large bowl with a small amount of oil or butter. Place the dough into the bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.

Step 8

Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a small space between each ball. Cover again with a towel or plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for 30-45 minutes, until puffy and just touching.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter for a golden crust.

Step 10

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls sound hollow when tapped lightly.

Step 11

Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with more melted butter for extra flavor and shine.

Step 12

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm as a side dish or on their own!
