  • 6 slices, toasted and crumbled white sandwich bread
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
  • 2 large, diced yellow onion
  • 4 stalks, diced celery
  • 5 cups (or more, as needed) chicken broth
  • 3 large, beaten eggs
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried sage) fresh sage
  • 1.5 teaspoons (or to taste) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (or to taste) black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Prepare the cornbread ahead of time and let it cool completely. Crumble it into a large mixing bowl along with the crumbled toasted sandwich bread.

Step 3

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat.
