Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground pork
  • 0.5 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 small Potato, peeled and grated
  • 0.5 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp Ground cloves
  • 0.5 tsp Ground allspice
  • 0.5 tsp Dried thyme
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 2 9-inch rounds Pie crust pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 Egg, beaten for egg wash

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground pork, ground beef, and onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are soft, about 8–10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic, grated potato, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, thyme, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2–3 minutes.

Step 4

Pour in the water, reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally. The grated potato will help thicken the filling.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool slightly before assembling the pie.

Step 6

Roll out one of the pie crust rounds and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess pastry hanging over the edges.

Step 7

Spoon the meat filling into the prepared pie crust and spread it out evenly.

Step 8

Place the second pie crust over the top. Pinch the edges of the two crusts together to seal and crimp decoratively if desired. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

Step 9

Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to give it a golden, glossy finish while baking.

Step 10

Bake the tourtière in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.

Step 11

Allow the tourtière to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
