Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 pieces black tea bags
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint leaves (fresh or dried)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 1 pinch ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetening)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the black tea bags and peppermint leaves to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to low and let steep for 5 minutes.

Step 3

While the tea is steeping, in a separate saucepan, warm 1 cup of milk over low heat. Do not boil.

Step 4

Once the tea has finished steeping, remove and discard the tea bags. Strain out the peppermint leaves using a fine mesh strainer, if necessary.

Step 5

Stir in the ground cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, and cloves into the tea. Mix well to combine the spices.

Step 6

Add the warmed milk to the spiced tea and stir gently.

Step 7

Taste the tea and, if desired, add honey or maple syrup for sweetness.

Step 8

Pour the Peppermint Chai Tea into mugs, serve hot, and enjoy the comforting blend of flavors.
