Ingredients

  • 16 oz Penne pasta
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 large Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 oz Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon or spatula. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Allow the cheese to melt and incorporate fully into the sauce.

Step 7

Add the cooked penne pasta to the sauce and toss until the pasta is fully coated.

Step 8

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top and cover the skillet with a lid. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes over low heat until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 9

Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot.
