Ingredients

  • 400 grams penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves
  • 1 large onion
  • 800 grams canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese
  • 10 leaves fresh basil leaves

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Step 2

Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, or about 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

While the pasta cooks, finely chop the onion and garlic cloves.

Step 4

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Step 5

Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pan and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.

Step 6

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.

Step 7

Add dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

Step 8

Stir the sauce well and bring it to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 9

Once the sauce has thickened, add the cooked penne pasta to the saucepan and stir until the pasta is well coated with the marinara sauce.

Step 10

Serve hot, garnished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
