Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Raw shrimp (shell-on, deveined)
  • 8 cups Water
  • 1 whole Lemon
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 2 leaves Bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Fill a large pot with 8 cups of water and place it over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the pot, then drop the lemon halves in as well.

Step 3

Add the garlic cloves (crushed but not peeled), bay leaves, salt, and red pepper flakes to the pot.

Step 4

Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer to allow the flavors to infuse for 3-5 minutes.

Step 5

Add the shrimp to the pot and simmer for 2-3 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook.

Step 6

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked shrimp to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let cool for 2 minutes, then drain and set aside.

Step 7

To make the cocktail sauce, whisk together the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 8

Transfer the shrimp to a serving platter and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve the shrimp chilled alongside the spicy cocktail sauce for dipping.
