Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • 0.75 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pecans (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped pecans, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

Step 5

Gradually add the milk, stirring with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula, just until a sticky dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter or a round glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather the scraps of dough, reshape, and cut again as needed.

Step 7

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 8

Remove the biscuits from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter. Sprinkle with additional chopped pecans, if desired, for garnish.

Step 9

Let the biscuits cool slightly and serve warm. They pair wonderfully with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.
