Ingredients

  • 6 cups Bread (day-old or stale, cubed)
  • 2 cups Pears (ripe, peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter (for greasing the dish)
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with unsalted butter.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread and diced pears. Toss gently to mix and transfer to the greased baking dish, spreading evenly.

Step 3

In another bowl, whisk the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well blended.

Step 4

Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and pears, pressing down lightly with a spatula to ensure all bread pieces are soaked.

Step 5

Let the bread mixture sit for 15 minutes to fully absorb the custard.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set in the center. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.

Step 7

Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Step 8

Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving for a touch of sweetness and presentation.
